That's correct, however, this is also different to being registered for an
ABN - if as a company I am dealing with another company which is not
registered for an ABN, or doesn't quote their ABN to me, then I have to
withhold 48.5% of the payment.

Hi IPM-ers,

     Just to confuse matters a bit more let me say that charging GST is not
compulsory if you are not registered for GST.
My accountant's advice is that a business that turns over less than $50,000
a year does not need to be registered for GST and therefore does not have to
charge GST .
This means putting GST charges on the invoice is not mandatory. ...... and
the invoice is marked "invoice" and not "tax invoice".
