"Privacy laws may need to be amended so that companies can reveal 
personal information about individuals during large scale emergencies, a 
report by the federal Privacy Commissioner has said.

The report on private sector provisions of the Privacy Act highlighted 
problems faced by airlines which were asked to provide information to 
people searching for missing loved ones in the aftermath of the Asian 
tsunami last December.

Disclosure of the information may have breached national privacy 
principles, the report by Privacy Commissioner Karen Curtis and released
