James
can you give me some details as far as some of your blocking rules for
ISA?

HI Michael,
it depends on what proxy setup you have. We are using ISA 2004 and
messenger cant get through it. Internet connections have to go through
the proxy to get out and messenger doesn't make it through, even with
the right proxy settings in it. As for other setups, I'm not sure.

Sorry for this unrelated topic.

My technician and I have reached the limit of our patience and knowledge
with MSN Messenger and other messenger services.

Students are running rampant at our school (they use laptops) and we
have tried some methods of blocking the program, such as firewall URL
blocks and local computer policies. The local computer policy was the
best until we discovered it blocked access from home as well.

So back to the drawing board.

I would very much like to hear from laptop schools who have successfully
blocked Messenger and other messenger services, if they exist.

PS Please don't let this become a discussion on the virtues of laptops
vs. desktops.
