Hi Helen

It is not often we receive anything via this list. So good on you for
using it.

I also get my students to share media articles each week. I have a
roster of two students each week to present. This is all the time I can
spare. But they love it.

Hello all

I am new to this list (but not to teaching) and am wondering how many
other people are on it - it doesn't seem to be as active as the other
lists I belong to.

I attended the ACHPER PD on VCE Health & Human Development and have
already implemented quite a few of the ideas I got from it. I would
especially like to thank Andrew Beaumont - my students loved the
concentration game so much some of them have made cards for other
subjects to help them learn definitions.

We have also modified 'celebrity nutrient' to be more of an 'animal,
mineral, vegetable' type game - who said kids don't like competition . .
.we even have a weekly champion!!

One of the things I introduced early in the unit was 'news'. At the
beginning of our double period we share a news item. I ask each student
to come prepared but not all of them share each time (it would take too
long). The aim behind it was to broaden their horizons and general
knowledge particularly when it comes to unit 4 and world events /
geography. However I have found it to be really effective and the
students are bringing some great topics to class. We try to match it to
the content of the class each week but basically any health issue will
do. My weaker students tend to double up and use articles from English
but I don't see a problem with that because it still enhances their
understanding. Anyway, a simple idea but it generates a lot of
discussion.

I look forward to airing and sharing with more of you - given our
geographic diversity these lists are a great way to 'meet'
