Hi Lorraine,
Having worked with you since Food became a stand a lone subject I am sad to hear your news. Over the years you have worked to help us create a study that contained the required academic rigour whilst maintaining our belief of learning through practical application. You have provided feedback on our work and support to create the study as it is today.
We appreciate this and are pleased about the development of your knowledge of food!!!
Thank you for all the work, the long hours, the friendship and the belief in our studies,

Regards,
Lyn Baker

Subject: [Foodtech] Announcement

Dear colleague

After much deliberation, I have decided to depart from the role of Curriculum Manager, Design and Technology that I have had for the past 12 years at the VCAA. I am very much looking forward to spending more time with my family and pursuing other activities. I have really enjoyed working with the many talented and committed teachers in the technology learning area over the years, both in my teaching career and as the curriculum manager. It has been very rewarding to see the creativity of the talented students in Top Designs and at other exhibitions and to learn of the pathways students who have studied subjects in our area pursue in related and diverse fields such as agriculture, hospitality, fashion design, engineering and furniture making.

I would like to sincerely thank the VCAA State Reviewers, Assistant State Reviewers, Examination panels and assessors, Top Designs Selection Panels, teachers who have provided student work samples for VCAA projects, committee members of subject associations (DATTA Vic, Home Economics Victoria, HEIV (Vic) and VAAHE) and professional development presenters who have all supported teaching and learning in technology education in Victoria. It has been a great privilege to work with you all.

Leanne Compton has been appointed to the position of Curriculum Manager, Design and Technologies commencing January 2013. Leanne has a background in home economics education and digital learning. She has taught food technology in both rural and metropolitan schools, and also lectured at universities. Leanne also worked on the Curriculum Corporation Values project. She has worked for the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development in the Digital Learning unit where she led the 1-to-1 learning project that included running professional learning across all curriculum areas with a focus on supporting teachers to use ICT to optimise learning and teaching in the classroom. Leanne is both a national and state past president of the Home Economics Institute of Australia and has contributed to the development of the Australian Curriculum: Technologies as a member of the National Panel. She has authored VELS and VCE textbooks in food technology and has been involved in writing study design Advice for teachers and has been a member of examination setting panels and as an examination assessor. I know you will join with me in congratulating Leanne and welcoming her to new role.

As I will be finishing up on 31 December, I'd like to wish you all the best for the festive season and for the future.

Regards, Lorraine.
