Dear English Teachers ,

 

Edulists is foremost a community which only exists as a forum for the sharing of ideas and resources.  The netiquette guidelines and the mission of Edulists are clearly stated on the home page at www.edulists.com.au <http://www.edulists.com.au/>  and when a person decides to subscribe.  These include to inform, clarify, question, explain, offer, respond, discuss or  suggest how to teach the curriculum and the study area or to propose how the study can be enhanced. 

 

Recently a number of comments have been made regarding decisions made by the respective VCAA panels. In that context, when an individual expresses a view about an area of the course, it can be to  stimulate discussion or offer an improvement. Where there is explicit or implicit criticism of course content one option for discontented individuals is to join the next panel and work to change the course for the next cycle. This removes the personalities and avoids the potential for inflammatory comments.

Where there are questions of the VCAA these need to go directly to the VCAA, via the English Curriculum Manager, Sean Box (box.sean.m at edumail.vic.gov.au). It is not appropriate to ask members of VCAA panels to publicly justify VCAA Board decisions; these panels are advisory only with the VCAA Board taking final responsibility for decisions. 

 

In the spirit of supporting rich communities, members must be cognisant of the potential impact of their contributions, and focus on sharing and contributing to discussions.
