For Lit our students do
History of the world IN 10 ½ Chapters by Julian Barnes
Gatsby the novel and Gatsby the graphic novel by Niki Greenberg
Sylvia Path
Judith Wright
Othello
The Outsider
We also do a range of poems just because I love them.
Yevtushenko's poetry is the highlight for all.
I have had success with Spirited Away, Peter Carey's short stories, Asher Lev,
Negative responses to The Turn of the Screw, Tim Winton, Jane Eyre
Greta
I try to have some fun with it

I'm at a large regional secondary college. I've had a lot of success with Anson Cameron's short stories in Nice Shootin' Cowboy (although, sadly, it is currently out of print). Last year I also did Lord of the Flies, King Lear (Because we could see it in performance), Toy Symphony (also because it was touring; it was fantastic), Far From Heaven (film text) and some Emily Dickinson poetry. I think I also used some short stories from Book of the Beach.
Cheers,
Alison

poetry text Blue Light, Clear Atom and a Shakespeare play. Also did
earlier in year a bit of a Shaun Tan unit using class set of The Red
Tree and short film, The Lost Thing.

We have done
Beneath Clouds (Great Australian film) but will next year swap to Mary
and Max (animated film by Adam Eliot)
The Longest Memory but will swap to The Lieutenant by Kate Grenville
(possibly)
Night
Medea (but I think I am sick of that)
Cheers,
Greta

We do Edgar Allen Poe, A View From the Bridge (as a sort of Views and
Values study), Frankenstein (as a novel into film study), Midsummer
Nights and a short story from Tim Winton's "Minimum of Two" for the
comparison task, and Chaucer's A Millers Tale for creative response. But
nothing very modern in here...
Just went to a New texts for Year 12 English PD and was told Atwood's
Cat's Eye, Carver's Will You Be Quiet Please and Things We Didn't See
Coming, Steven Amsterdam (I think) would all work well for Year 11 Lit
as well.
Cheers
Alex

We are finding 'I'm not Scared' a terrific choice at yr 11.
We still love Macbeth, always works with Yr 11s with lots of
supplementary activities.
We also look at Paul Kelly's lyrics and again Yr 11s respond to the
familiarity of these.
Good luck, Kathryn
