Hi

I have been in contact with the Premier's Reading Challenge coordinators
regarding the books listed for Year 10.

I had been discussing the Reading Challenge with a Year 10 student who
is an avid reader (only Year 10 student to complete Challenge).  She
said that she had trouble completing the Challenge because of the lack
of Challenge books that she hadn't already read or that interested her.
Many titles were too young for what she is currently reading.

I suggested to the PRC people that the  Year 10 list needs the inclusion
of adult literature to make it more representative of what the kids are
reading e.g. books from the adult best seller lists; biographies,
suspense, fantasy, historical, romances; series such as Warhammer and
Warcraft; popular authors such as Jeffrey Deaver, James Patterson,
Rachael Treasure, Philippa Gregory, Anne McCaffrey .  It also needs more
classics included e.g. all the titles in the Penguin Classics series.


Are your Year 10s participating in the Challenge?  The Premier's Reading
Challenge people  readingchallenge at edumail.vic.gov.au   want suggestions
of books to add to the Challenge list for Year 10 (& other years as well).
