Hi Paula,
The curricula look great! I smiled when reading that yr5-6 students should include data validation techniques in their spreadsheets (Digital Technologies) as I remember when yr 11 kids had difficulty with that! The increasing focus on global communication is welcome. I think that is the most difficult for teachers to implement so there will be work for VITTA in that area. I'll be responding formally probably through the online mechanism.

Hope you had a good week.

Kind regards,

Charmaine

Subject: [elearning] Consultation on Draft Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies

Dear colleagues

The Draft Australian Curriculum: Technologies is currently available for consultation. This document addresses two curriculum areas: Digital Technologies and Design and Technologies. Digital Technologies is a new subject, which focuses on students developing and applying computational thinking skills to create digital solutions. It is in additional to the ICT general capability, which focuses on students acquiring and applying ICT knowledge and skills to support learning.

The VCAA is organising a series of consultation sessions to inform Victoria's response to ACARA on this document. Next Wednesday (13 March) a notice to schools will be published by the VCAA outlining dates and registration details. Note that the closing date for registrations is 21 March.

The schedule is as follows:

* 26 March: face-to-face consultation for both Design and Technologies and Digital Technologies for primary teachers (4:30 - 6:30 pm at 2 Treasury Place, East Melbourne)

* 22 April: face-to-face consultation for both Design and Technologies and Digital Technologies for secondary teachers (4:30 - 6:30 pm at 2 Treasury Place, East Melbourne)

* 23 April: online consultation for Design and Technologies (primary and secondary teachers)

* 24 April: online consultation for Digital Technologies (primary and secondary teachers)

As with any ACARA consultation, teachers can directly submit their feedback via the online survey accessed at the Australian Curriculum<http://consultation.australiancurriculum.edu.au/> website.

Please contact me if you have any queries regarding this consultation process.

Regards
Paula
