Fascinating workshop for anybody attending ACEC2012. I am looking forward
to meeting the presenter who also teaches with the OLPC laptops. Details
below.

If you are interested in joining us, Amanda Rablin and I are running an
online GoogleHangout this Monday evening (9pm EST, 7pm Perth, 11 pm
Auckland) for a live broadcast in build up to our ACEC Unplugged event, a
space for peer-to-peer learning, collaboration and creativity that will be
running just before and alongside the main ACEC2012 conference in
Perth from 2 - 5 October. You read up more about this here and register
your interest by clicking on the going: *yes, no, maybe* options.
Education leader Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach will be joining us.

This is brilliant workshop and what you learn can be applied to 'ordinary'
classrooms.

The One Laptop per Child Workshop is also wonderful value for you PD
dollar.

Remember that workshop participants not only attend a first class workshop
and enjoy a delicious lunch together, but following afternoon tea,
participants are invited to move on to the Opening Keynote Address by
Professor Patrick Griffin, the Twenty : 20 Challenge and the Welcome
Reception.

One Laptop per Child Australia (OLPC) has been working with schools around
the country, predominantly in remote communities, to provide this
technology to enhance student engagement and ultimately improve student
learning outcomes.

The OLPC program has evolved since its inception four years ago. Laptops
have been deployed around the country, new training programs, software
development and deployment models have emerged in order to be an innovative
and dynamic organisation, striving to find new and creative ways to target
complicated educational challenges.

This workshop will provide an opportunity for *hands-on* work with the
current generation of XO laptops.

The XO supports many scenarios to fulfil student learning needs. The XO
also provides significant advances in technology that reduce power
consumption and make the laptop more rugged for children’s use.

Explore the Sugar learning environment and our unique and latest approach
to learning!

Participants will be guided through many activities on the XO laptop and
learn about using them in a classroom environment.

Participants will also learn about the significant work OLPC is doing
across the country and the way this technology is disseminated to students
within a comprehensive learning program involving teachers, community
members and students.

The workshop will also explore the lessons learnt in Australia and the new
directions OLPC Australia has taken.

The presenter is Tracy Richardson of OLPC Australia.

*Please note that because the hands-on activities involved are such an
important part of this workshop, the size of the group will be strictly
limited.*
