[elearning] iPads for schools

I just spent my first day at school with my iPad today (and am typing
this on it!)
it was a major success! I have entered my timeline into the calendar,
can access the school's wifi - thus the Internet and all (ok most, not
flash) the learning resources on it.
I took the minutes for our ict committee meeting on it, very successfully.
If I can do all that, my (our) students can too.
You're right, it might not be too good for techie content creation,
but as a word processor, spreadsheet, and Internet info access device
it works really well, is relatively cheap, very portable, light, and
intuitive to use.

I support a 'trial'. I'm sure there will be kinks to work through,
that's why it's a trial.
Plus, if we want our students to create content and apps for mobile
devices they have to have access to them.

My two cents.

They have their place and I think that there is going to be a big future with these slim, tablet devices. Sure they are not a full blown desktop computer but if my son can get to school and back with a foot scooter, there is probably no need to insist that he can only use his racing bike.
