Hi Michael,

Thanks for your email. There will be additional Game Maker PDs at the VITTA conference in November. Information about the Conference is available at http://www.vitta.org.au/conferenceinfo/cid/1/parent/1/t/conferenceinfo.

VITTA has recently launched a step-by-step Game Maker resource package which is available at http://www.vitta.org.au/resourceshop.

Game Maker can be downloaded from Yoyo Games at http://www.yoyogames.com/make. There is a free (unlicensed) version which can be used to develop games suitable for Year 9s), in the event that you want to start developing 3D games, you will need to pay a registration fee for the licensed version. I would personally start with the free version as you can develop maze, platform and scrolling games with it.

I hope this helps,

Nat

Nathaniel

I am considering teaching Gamemaker to Year 9 boys next year.

Will there be more Gamemaker sessions later this year or early next year?

Also can you recommend a reseller for purchasing Gamemaker licences?

Hi everyone (sorry for the cross posts),

I?d just like to talk about the Game Maker PD Sessions which VITTA is running over the next few weeks.

On the 11th of August, we will be running a workshop in advanced platform games and teaching how to develop a platform game with moving platforms. At present, the tutorials available on the web only cover static platforms and many kids try to create moving platforms, but they find it really difficult.

On the 18th, we will be running a workshop introducing scripting. This is a good opportunity to build a link between a subject focusing on Game Maker in year 9 or 10, and a VB or C# programming course. The title of the game is ?Air VITTA? (see image attached).

The workshops are also subsidised as VITTA has received funding from Multimedia Victoria. So come along and get some great extension material for your students studying Game Maker.

Regards,

Hi folks (and sorry for the cross posts),

Do you want great value Professional Learning? You pay less for this quality event due to a subsidy provided by Multimedia Victoria.

Advanced Platform Games

?Excuse me? how do you make the platform move??

Many will agree that students learn to create a range of games in Game Maker much faster than conventional programming languages. It is also not uncommon for students to look for creative ways to extend the platform games tutorials available online. This PD session will cover in-depth the concepts of gravity, platforms and also how to successfully create a moving platform.

This Professional Learning session will be on:

Date: Wednesday 11th August 2010

Time: 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm

Venue: Melbourne High School, Forrest Hill, South Yarra, Victoria 3141
Melways Map Reference: 2L J3
