[elearning] 1:1 which way do we go?

Hi Colleagues,
I have been testing the Lenovo S10e for a while now and is excellent for all the basic packages schools use. Forget installing CS4 suite on there. The s10e is b/g wireless capable and works well on our n network. However, if your minimum standard is n then it may have an impact on the wireless and slow it down. I have also been testing the MSI U100+ series notebook which is b/g/n and is great!
I find that schools are limited in what they can purchase. The MSI notebook is retailing now for about $515 inc GST. Excellent netbook and sooooooo cheap. But they are not part of "the list". Prices keep dropping but the governments negotiation with set prices in my opinion are ridiculous. The netbooks have dropped dramatically in price in the retail sector but the price on "the list" is still the same.
One important issue: if schools go 1:1 then how do they keep this ratio after 3 years? The lifespan of a notebook is lucky to last 3 years in a school.
Another option is a notebook thin client solution. They last beyond 3 years but is an expensive alternative.

But it seems you can lease the netbooks (purchased with Rudd funds) to
students?

You can't lease with Rudd money :-(

tool for the job for many subjects. We are at the start of our journey,
having to really boost our network infrastructure before we can even begin
to think about getting any extra units, as the system is fairly fragile at
the moment.
