I suppose the reason that I am asking is
1. I admire your technical expertise- I wouldn’t know how to do what you have created in a million years and
2. To me, one of the fundamental purposes of having students create posts in wikis and blogs is so that they can communicate with other students, teachers, classes and experts around the world. Of course that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t have to be vigilant and treat all connections with some care but there are ways, such as setting password protections and private settings to ensure that they are reasonably safe. It wouldn’t obviously be as safe as your environment but it does make it easier for ‘ordinary’ teachers to use these new technologies with their classes.
Again though, I admire your expertise
Kind regards Anne

yeah the control is the only reason, and inside the protected intranet
allows access by ONLY staff and students from this school.
apart from that I don't see any problems with the educational ones.
I just sort of did it as a experiment and it grew that's all.

Hi Paul
I'm interested in why you have decided to build the space yourself rather than use the educational wikis and blogs that are freely available on the web. Apart from the obvious control and privacy issues is there any other reason?

cross post from Year 12 IT Apps
I have built a PHP based wiki/blog/profile system here at narre warren south p-12,
a few classes are using the blogs as a 'journal'.. nobody has used the wiki yet, but hopefully soon.
and because we have it 'onsite' we have full control over the content,
as in we can delete an entry then and there if it is innapropriate.
the 'profile' section is perhaps a little questionable, but better than the kids using the real myspace from school.
the newest feature is being able to include 'mp3' files in your blogposts, AKA podcasts.
maybe you could use something like this as part of your new IT course, and even non IT subjects.
anyways, there's a few screenshots at HYPERLINK "http://web.nwsc.vic.edu.au/narrespace" \nhttp://web.nwsc.vic.edu.au/narrespace
I would love it if a few other schools were 'beta testing' it for me too though... hint, hint...
