Afternoon everyone.
DATTA Vic understands that the DET has produced Work Health and Safety modules for teachers in Government Schools that have unclear guidance on the requirements for Technologies teachers to undertake the Safe Use of Machinery for Technology Teaching course.
We have had confirmation from the DET that accreditation for individuals is for life once they have successfully completed the relevant units of competency. Therefore as long as a teacher has undertaken the Wood/Metal course, there is currently no requirement to repeat it or to complete a refresher every 5 years.
DATTA Vic recommends that all teachers working with tools and equipment undertake the Safe Use of Machinery course in line with your school's Risk Management Procedures.
For more information on OH&S, visit the DET's Safety Guidelines<http://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/teachers/management/Pages/technology.aspx> website.
Thanks, Laura

Note I am working from home Monday - Thursday.
I acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurung people of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which I live and work. I pay my respect to their Elders, both past and present.
DATTA Vic works with schools throughout the state, and we also pay respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the wider Victorian community and beyond. Indigenous sovereignty has never been ceded.
