Hope things are going well at Genazzano.
We are a P-12 school at Overnewton with a Middle Years program from Years 5-8. We run a rotational Vis Art and Technologies structure - at Years 5&6, students do a term each year of Art, VCD, Design & Tech (Wood, Metal, Plastics) and Digitech - 3 x 50 min periods per week. At Years 7&8, students rotate through 6 subjects over 2 years - 2D Art, 3D Art, VCD, Media, Design & Tech (WMP) and Digitech, again 3 X 50 mins per week. We find the Year 7&8 program very limited in terms of Technologies time.
We are also restructuring our Middle Years over the next 18 months and will increase our D&T rotational subjects to include Food and some Systems Eng. Textiles isn’t offered at the school until Year 10 as an elective.

Here at Kardinia International College we offer a range of design tech classes, for what we call level B (yr 7 and 8 combined, coz we cant just run year 7 classes in D&T). We have a range of entry level woodwork and metal work classes and also electronics (renewable energy focus) and a STEAM unit involving general engineering/design concepts.

Our students will get 4x50 minute periods per week when undertaking these design tech units.

Year 9  and 10's have a range of wood work, 3d printing, metal work/mixed materials and robotics classes. Also, 4x 50min periods per week.

Then we have VCE PD&T and VCE Systems Eng for years 10-12.

I'm finding it interesting the differences between schools and design tech setups through this email trail! There seems to be some good stuff happening out there!!

Hi everyone,

Just wanting to gather a bit of information on Design &Tech and Digital technologies taught at Years 7 &8 at your schools.

Firstly, do you offer Design & Tech and/or Digital Technologies as a subject at Years 7 and 8.

Secondly, what time allocation is given to the subjects (eg. 3 x 45min periods a cycle).

We are looking to review our Year 7 and 8 program at my school and I would like to see the Technologies firmly embedded so would appreciate any information.
