Hi all,
You can look at this opportunity from a number of points of view. When we I was looking for a technician a few years ago I was originally thinking of employing a semi-retired tradesman or ex teacher. We were setting up the Trades Skills Centre at that point and I needed someone who was skilled and autonomous to assist with fitting out the centre with storage etc. and assisting with the processing of materials for students etc.
Obviously the interview, screening and selection process had to ensure that this person was suitable for working in a school environment.
We interviewed a number of people and none ticked all of the boxes. We had a younger applicant interview and we later discussed at length succession planning (something schools don’t do well). This younger applicant contemplated teaching Design and Technology and had completed a cabinet making/joinery apprenticeship and a few years in the trade in the housing industry and had some other diverse skills.
This person is now still my technician, has gained a PTT and is assisting in my VET Building class and is now in his second year of his teaching qualification. It has been a win-win for both parties.
Hope this helps.

Hi
We are looking at employing a part-time/casual Tech assistant for the Woodwork/Design Tech area. What minimum qualifications and or experience would people recommend that we require for such a position.
Thanks
