I taught both subjects at the same time some 15 years ago but I started with one student doing textiles and she was a motivated person. The next year we had 3 girls doing it and in the end my school had to have a separate textile class as it had reached 12 students. That's how we got textiles going and it was also helped by the growing numbers of students as the school grew.
As mentioned before the theory is the same but my girls went into another room and they were able to get in a school admin person who was good at sewing to help the girls.
Now with the folio expectations being over top now it could make it very possible as back then more time was given to the prac work.
You need support from your school to make it possible for you to run these mixed classes. They saw my situation as a bit of a novelty but we proved them wrong and got it done.
Don't be afraid but make sure your school is prepared to help you with the prac time, even maybe a volunteer person from the community might help. I used to amuse the class by providing examples of both materials in my class discussions.
I would be happy to speak to you if you ever wanted too.

Cheers, David Foster

I have heard on the grapevine the powers above are looking at combining VCE PDT Textiles and Wood?
Is that even possible? Permissible? even if there was some demi god with suitable skills in both (technically I could but it?s been a while since I have played with wood, never at VCE level)
Logistics here with two totally different rooms in different buildings for the different materials would make it nigh impossible, unless we have a split class with the prac time in different room?
Naturally nothing has been said to us in person? just what we are picking up on?. And we have been told other schools do it? so very curious as to anyone who does?.
I would assume a purpose built technology space would make it possible? we don?t have that.
Not sure which other lists to send this to? and even who the VCE tech person is now at VCAA.
Help!!
Anyone doing this successfully/unsuccessfully
Cheers
Suzanne
