[Design and Technology] sad news

Here’s photo of Foster at 2015 Top Designs exhibition opening – he is closest to the camera.  One of my students from Assumption College, Matthew, is with him as is Katrina Wheaton-Penniall our State Reviewer and teacher from Genazzaro, 2 of Katrina’s students were in that year.   Foster was again celebrating one of his Trinity students getting into the exhibition as the quality of the work produced by Foster’s students was always extremely high.   

Trinity was lucky to have him as a teacher in Product Design.  There are many students who owe him a lot as do his colleagues.

I was also very saddened to hear of Foster’s passing. I always loved seeing Foster at DATTA Vic conferences and events - he was always encouraging and supportive, and would be open to and excited by new ideas or approaches. He was generous with his knowledge and experience, and I know he has greatly influenced many technology teachers through his time at Hawthorn and Trinity Grammar, and through his involvement with DATTA Vic.

My thoughts are with his family and close colleagues

He will be sorely missed.

Hi Peter

I join with others in sending condolences to Foster's family, friends and colleagues. I first met Foster at Hawthorn when he was a lecturer in the Grad Dip in Technology Education. I appreciated his wisdom about new directions in design and technology education as it emerged as a learning area from art, craft and 'trade-based' education in the early 90's. Later, following the growth of the design and technology area through his work at Trinity Grammar, I was astounded by the quality and innovation displayed in the work of Foster's students at the college's end of year exhibition. I have many fond memories of our discussions and greatly appreciated his honesty and warmth. 

RIP, Foster.

It is with great sadness that I advise of the passing of Foster Adem.

Foster was a much loved teacher, colleague and friend. He was an active DATTA member bringing a wealth of experience from Industry and many schools including 16 years teacher education at Hawthorn Institute of Education. Foster was instrumental in the growth and development of the Design and Technology program at Trinity Grammar School over the last 16 years. He was an expert in his field and a superb mentor to students and staff alike. He will be greatly missed.
