Below if the position description:

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and motivated professionals for the part-time (0.6 FTE) fixed term position of Product Design Technician at our Kew campus, commencing January 2015.

The purpose of this role is to provide general technical support to staff and students across a range of activities within the Product Design and Technology department.

Duties & Responsibilities

  *   Assist teaching staff and students during class and other learning activities
  *   Demonstrate equipment and techniques for classes and individual students under teacher supervision
  *   Offer technical advice and assistance to students under teacher supervision
  *   Assist students in the research, development, construction and testing of project work
  *   Prepare materials and equipment for classroom and practical workshop sessions
  *   Prepare and document exhibition of student work
  *   Assist in ensuring that all machinery, tools and equipment are maintained in good working order
  *   Maintain inventory including records as appropriate, requisitioning of materials and implementation of stock controls
  *   Maintain material storage areas
  *   Recycle materials
  *   May be required to formally control a designated area of the workshop facility
  *   Undertake training of staff where appropriate
  *   Maintain OH&S standards in workshops, assisting in ensuring that a safe and healthy working environment is provided
  *   Ensure that workshops are kept clean and tidy
