Dear Teachers

Applications are now open for the 2015 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival Future Runway Presented by Spotlight. The Festival, together with Spotlight, invites secondary school students from around Australia to submit an application to showcase in the Festival’s distinguished Future Runway and receive a Spotlight mentorship.
Applications are open to all Australian students over the age of 16, in their final two years of Secondary education and currently completing VCE, VCAL (or Australian equivalents), VET, Certificate I or Certificate II.  Applicants are required to produce an original ‘creative journal' and design statement which demonstrates the individual fashion design style and the overall themes of their collection.

The Future Runway Presented by Spotlight provides students with the unique opportunity to produce a collection of garments to be showcased at a Festival produced official event in March.

The benefits for successful students include:

⁄          Spotlight ‘mentorship’ consisting of:

⁄          a themed fabric kit (to be used to create the outfits),

⁄          $50 Spotlight gift voucher

⁄          Two (2) special advisory sessions with sewing experts at students’ local Spotlight stores

⁄          Garments being included in a Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival Runway, production including a full production team (producer, technical director, music director, choreographer, leading industry stylist and hair & makeup provided by the Festival’s official beauty partner)

⁄          Garments being showcased to an audience of 930 industry professional, media and consumers

⁄          Associated media coverage generated to support the runway show

⁄          2 x tickets to attend the Future Runway presented by Spotlight in Melbourne on Sunday 22 March 2015.

Following the runway show, Spotlight will select a winning school to receive a prize of

⁄          3 x Bernina sewing machines

⁄          3 x Bernina over-locking machines

⁄          $1000 Spotlight voucher

Future Runway Deadlines:
28 November 2014 - Applications close
December 2014 - Finalists are notified of their successful application
15 February 2015 - Finalists provide their two garments to the Festival
22 March 2015 - Future Runway event at Central Pier, Docklands
