Napoleon: Revolution to Empire exhibition at the NGV St. Kilda Road.
I went to the exhibition yesterday and there are so many different things to
see from fabulous military uniforms, and a gorgeous Empire dress that was
worn by a woman in Josephine's entourage. She was tiny !
The swords, silver work and jewellery include diamond encrusted tiaras. I
compared these to the current contemporary jewellery exhibition that is
downstairs near the schools entrance. It is a great comparison to see the
change in what we classify as "jewellery"
There are few chairs from the Napoleonic era as well, including a very
splendid throne that he sat on ! Again a comparison between these and the
permanent chair exhibition is great.
Having attended a PD last year run by the NGV, I would recommend that
Product Design and Technology teachers book into the one on August 3rd as
going on previous experience, what you get for $130 is brilliant.
The talks are both interesting and informative; time to catch up with peers
and wander around the exhibition at a quiet time and finally, great food at
a nearby restaurant - not a party pie to be seen.
Treat your artistic soul and your tummy at these PDs.
