Hi Andy,

My guess is you have already had a few emails regarding this...
anyway....

There are a number of PD sessions offered by various bodies. DATTA vic
and Museum Victoria run training sessions. The chief reviewer runs
museum sessions for Top Designs...this will be early to mid next year.
They talk about folios and the work exhibited. This can give you an
insight into upper level work being done by students. Coming up late
this year and early next, will be sessions for teachers new to D and T
units 1,2,3 and 4 for 2012. It would not matter in the slightest if you
are not actually teaching the study and you could use this as a basis to
gain an understanding of the course. I would start with units 1 and
2..... it could be pretty overwhelming if you did all 4.....Your school
should support your request by paying for these sessions as part of your
PD requirement.  It also wouldn't hurt to sit in on some cross marking
of folios which should be happening around now. This is sometimes done
across 2 schools or within a school.  It may be difficult to arrange
this but you might find someone willing to let you view their folios. If
you view the folios at Top designs,( These are often significantly
reduced in size /volume but  this will give you an understanding  of the
course. Obviously the study design is the best place to start. It is new
for next year so the PD sessions will be plentiful!

There are a lot of ways you can skill yourself up. Try DATTA vic as a
professional body. Your school should support you with a professional
membership.
