I too have tried the plastic spool machines and they cause nothing but 
trouble! You will spend most of your budget getting them fixed.
have you tried Les Godfrey sewing machines? he is wonderful. he can 
often source you 2nd hand machines or will find you the best price possible.
Berninas are the only way to go!
