Hi!
This point has been raised before, but not responded to!! I'd like several of our teachers to attend a ProDesktop PD, and other PD activities, but but cannot expect them to give up a full day at the weekend, after a very busy week. Can something be done about this?

Hello David, thanks for the info regarding upcoming PD courses.
Is there any possibility of ProDesktop PD being available at times other than weekends? This is a very limiting factor despite being very interested in the program.

Hi to Design & Technology Teachers:
The Technology Education Association of Victoria (TEAV) website shows spreadsheet of PD activities for Term 4.
www.teav.vic.edu.au/prof_dev
Some of these are early in the term and bookings will be required soon.
PRODESKTOP COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN COURSE (PD No. 6469)
SATURDAYS October 22 and 29 Mt Waverley (David Fletcher) $260
Pro/DESKTOP is high quality 3D CAD software specifically produced for schools. PTC produces high-end "Pro Engineer" CAD software for large corporations but has made this 'lite' version available with a 300-site license to teachers free of charge through its Design and Technology in Schools program. To obtain this license, teachers simply undertake a basic two-day training program and complete a small CAD project to demonstrate competency.
Qualified teachers can then burn additional copies to GIVE to students to take home.
Several recent exhibited student works in "Top Designs" (D&T and S&T) have used this easy-to-learn software in folios. The program is excellent for metalwork or woodwork toys and furniture design, product design, animated robotics and systems projects
Further emphasis on CAD and CAD/CAM in the proposed revised course in VCE Design & Technology will make this skill even more valuable for your students.
Construct a SKATE-DECK (Fibreglass Skateboard platform !) PD No. 6470
SATURDAY October 29 Mt Waverley (Arthur Bersee) $154 (members) / $165
This workshop follows on from Arthur Bersee's ''all hands on deck'' session at the 2005 conference. As Arthur says: "I think it is important to stress from the outset that for the people we want to engage through our tech stuff, skating is very serious stuff." The Skate Deck projects have empowered students throughout Arthurs school. Arthur has refined a mould and a manufacturing method which enables his students to construct their own skatedecks. His exhibition last year had students- made decks decorated by famous Australian artists. The session will begin with a brief introduction to the subtle complexities of skate decks. Arthur will then press a deck, after taking a previously pressed deck out of the press. Participants can then see how the blank is cut on the bandsaw and prepared for decorating. Each participant will be taken through the process of making a mould and how to use it to press a deck. There will also be an introduction to a variety ! of methods of decorating the decks.Participants will receive a list of suppliers and detailed and illustrated instructions.
MATERIAL - GLASS WORKSHOP PD No. 6471
SATURDAYS November 12 and 26 Mt Waverley (Wendy van Megchelen ) $275 (2 days)
This is a combined introductory and intermediate course, equipping participants with enough skills to run Glass Materials in their school for middle school and senior classes.
There will be discussion of the potential of Technology Glass to fulfil many of the VELs requirements, and ways that this can be readily integrated into coursework. There are many ways that the material glass can engage contemporary students. This is an appealing area to develop to help promote gender neutral content in Technology. Glass is a very appealing combination of technical and aesthetic that is achievable for the majority of students.Course participants will be making glass projects that can be applied in the classroom. Each person should be able to make at least one project per day, as well as accessing course notes, resources and curriculum that fulfils CSF requirements. Participants will take away a glass project that will also be useful as a teaching model. All materials will be provided for a range of fascinating projects.
