[Informatics] informatics Digest, Vol 12, Issue 68

Hi Cameron and other teachers,

The DLTV resource kit folder that I've kept updated during the year has a Unit 2 (i.e. Computing) examination:

You should have files called:
DLTV16 _ Computing _ Exam _ Unit 2 _ A.docx
&
DLTV16 _ Computing _ Exam _ Unit 2 _ A Solutions.docx

If you don't and can prove that you have purchased the DLTV resource kit, I'd be happy to provide you with a copy off list.

Lucas

Hi Lucas and others,

The only update I received on that day had the heading as below

However, I don't have access to the Unit 2 Exams, any suggestions?

Kind Regards,

Hi Heath and others...

There was an update to the resource kit. It was from Phil Brown and you might be able to find it in your e-mail archives by this header information:

In terms of exams that I currently have as part of the DLTV pack there's two Unit 1 exams, and one Unit 2 exam, plus a Unit3/4 sample exam.

All have been useful for preparing my students for their end of year exam (for the Year 11s I like to write my own especially for U3 U4 because our Python content would be less UI intensive as other teaching units)

If you wanted to use the DLTV unit 1 and 2 exam as an end of year exam, it's pretty decent to get students across the content. I think it's a little too much databases and not enough data visualisation in the questions, but if you use it as a template and then add a few of your own questions it can work.

The Year 12 DLTV exam was good to hand out to students because let's face it, you run out of practice exams very quickly for your best students. The most important feature for me was another case study to get stuck into. You can't do enough practices with this format before the actual exam. I'm near certain we will have low results for the last few case study questions because of the increased number of questions posed in this study design - MUCH more of a time management test this time. (Thankfully the students have studied project management and can allocate their time effectively :) - and now also have something worthwhile to do in reading time - it takes a good 15 minutes to read a 40 page exam)

On the same topic. I've been trying to get in touch with DLTV for the last four weeks. No answer and they use the 10 second message converted to text! No reply to e-mails. I was beginning to think that the organisation had gone under but I did get the newsletter last week. I have not received any updates to the resource pack since purchase and am wondering if there is a VCE exam in there now? I'm not feeling very supported by the organisation. Perhaps I'm just unlucky.

Seem to be two issues here: copyright and service or lack thereof.

Re copyright: Of course you are correct that people should not be copying materials and giving them to others who have not "paid" for them.

BUT people do get frustrated when they cannot access materials they have paid for and cannot get a timely response from the providers, be that book publishers or DTLV. The copyright act used to contain a provision allowing copying under these circumstances.

(I must get back to that science teacher at Morwell High who was foolish enough to give her science class, including my son, a test handwritten by me at Mirboo North.)

Greetings

i am not sure taking out on others is the appropriate response to lack of action since February.

On this list several times, mention has been made of access to answers to chapter questions, end of chapter quiz and SAT/SAC examples with suggested solutions.

This is the benefit of booklisting.

Your local Resources manager(Librarian?) will have these details.

Every year teachers need to renew their access codes and class codes.

This procedure is well established for several years (six i think) Asking for clearly copyrighted materials is a serious indiscretion, without getting into the legalities of the consequent action if anyone responds.

Book sellers at present are getting around booklisting, not responding to current teachers with requests for current courses, after their students have finished classes.

Google may be your friend, as was napster, bit-torrent and pirate bay, however we are over those now. ..

Under bright light of day anyway.

booklist the text book which in turn gives them access to the materials however many of their staff do not send access codes to the schools even when they are requested. The delay in the text book also stressed many teachers due to the delay and I did not get one until nearly the end of term one and that was after our librarian had to ring and email to ask why we did not have them. I know we only have a small group of students studying Informatics but they need to make it easier for us to obtain the resources which according to their own system that we are entitled to. With my new lap top trying to reset the password took ages as I kept getting blocked due to our firewall and it was incredibly frustrating. Then waiting for resources that have been paid for to arrive which I am sure I am not the only person with 12s finished for the year. One of our resources we were invoiced twice and am still waiting for r!
