Also depends on their question and what you consider to be an acceptable margin of error....

Again though...how long is a piece of string!

Seems to be that the consensus is around the 100 mark. This is what I have been aiming for.

Would you think that it's 100 of primary as well as 100 of secondary data? I have some students asking if they have to gather 100 records can it be 50 of each.

Yes, comes back to the how long is a piece of string questions I guess.

Hi Scott and Group

It would be hard to put an exact number on it?
I would assume enough data to support and otherwise their hypothesis, a critical part is depending on their topic how much data is available?
The students have to choose but I have led my students toward things they have come up with and where they could find the data.
Interesting to see what the rest of the group thinks?

Didn't get a reply so though I'd try again.

How may records are people suggesting that students collect for their data? What is a reasonable number to be able to manipulate and base a conclusion on?

Thanks,

Scott

Apologies if this has already been answered somewhere but I'm just wondering what sort of numbers of records students should be looking at for each data set?

i.e. how many unique pieces of data in each set?

Thanks,
