[Informatics] Digital Technologies

Hi Sylvia
From best of my knowledge:
- It is compulsory to offer students the opportunity to access the Digitech Curriculum at Year 7 to 10
- Most schools will consider having an elective at Year 9 and Year 10 to be sufficient for providing “access” at these levels
For Year 7 and Year 8 there are the two main options: standalone and integrated. There are many pros and cons for both which I won’t bore you with. The most important thing is to ensure that the leadership of the school will make a decision as to which they prefer and then resource appropriately.
For standalone you need to have more appropriately trained Digital Tech teachers. In this case, the subject needs to be seen as a specialist area, even if the training or upskill occurs “in-house” (not as a timetable “filler”)
For integrated you need to ensure that all of the teachers at your school are literate with Digital Technology terms (found in the glossary attached) and practices, and have an understanding of how their English essay doesn’t just assess their knowledge of English content but also the appropriate Digital Technology dot point on the curriculum.
There are a lot of good resources at https://www.digitaltechnologieshub.edu.au/ in terms of programs and how it’s being implemented. Similar Victorian state-based resources are at: http://www.digipubs.vic.edu.au/digipubs
Hope that helps.
Lucas

Craig, it is compulsory and my school has decided that it needs to be implemented across the curriculum and I dont know where to begin. Im in consultation with the Science Learning Leader but would love to see examples. Another thing the IT Teacher needs to do!!

Hi all
I would also appreciate some feedback on how it will be implemented at your school/s at levels 9 and 10 since it will be compulsory at these levels for Victorian and Catholic schools as from 2017. Is this correct ?
Thanks
Craig

Hi all
I was wondering if anyone has started with digital technologies and if any school is integrating it with their curriculum and not a stand alone subject. Any help will be appreciated.
