Department of Education
Victoria

For all principals and schools, business managers, school council
presidents, and regional staff

S055-2007 School Compliance Checklist Available for all Schools

Main Points

* The School Compliance Checklist is the final element of the
new School Accountability and Improvement Framework and will be
available to all schools from 13 February 2007.

* The School Compliance Checklist is a 'one-stop' online
self-assessment system designed to streamline reporting requirements for
schools and assist with compliance with legislative and departmental
policy by consolidating requirements into a single checklist.

* The School Compliance Checklist will:

- identify in one place compliance requirements that apply to
schools

- provide school users with a clear understanding of the nature
of compliance requirements

- assist schools to self-assess their level of compliance

- provide guidance to schools on how to become compliant

- provide details of key contacts for further information.

Actions Required

* All principals can log into the School Compliance Checklist
at: https://www.eduweb.vic.gov.au/scc using their Edumail password.

* All schools are required to self-assess their status for items
due in Term 1 by 30 March 2007.

Critical Date

* Self-assessment of compliance status for the 19 items due in
Term 1 is required by 30 March 2007

Additional Information

* The School Compliance Checklist is the result of extensive
research and consultation, including focus groups with principals and
regional staff to ensure that it is a user-friendly and effective tool.
The checklist has been piloted by a diverse range of schools prior to
its release. The pilot schools evaluated the checklist, provided
feedback on enhancements and identified the training and support needs
for schools.

* Feedback from the schools involved in the pilot has been
extremely positive with most participants self-assessing a number of
compliance items in just one or two hour long sessions due to the
simplicity and availability of the resources included on the checklist.

* Wherever possible self-assessment of items has been aligned
with the day-to-day operations of the school. For example if the
compliance activity occurs in Term 1 then the scheduled self-assessment
(date due by) will be in Term 1. At the end of each term the Department
will run a compliance status report across all Victorian government
schools for compliance items due in that term.

* It is mandatory that all schools self-assess their status on
the checklist for the 19 items due in Term 1. However, it is not
expected that all schools will be compliant in all areas initially. It
is expected that over time schools will work towards compliance.

* Areas of risk across the system will be identified to inform
the development of guidelines and target support more effectively.

* The School Compliance Checklist web application and User Guide
are both accessible through the School Improvement and Accountability
<http://www.sofweb.vic.edu.au/standards/account/index.htm> website
using current staff EduMail usernames and passwords. Alternatively the
checklist can be accessed directly via the following link:
https://www.eduweb.vic.gov.au/scc.

* A short DVD gas been developed which introduces the School
Compliance Checklist and the experiences of the schools that
participated in the pilot. Schools will be contacted by their region
or network about viewing the DVD.

* If assistance in logging on to the School Compliance Checklist
is required please contact the DoE Service Desk email:
servicedesk at edumail.vic.gov.au selecting Schools Technical then Software
or phone: 1800 641 943 using the prompts above.

* Further inquiries relating to the School Compliance Checklist
should be directed to Deborah Simmons, Project Manager, School System
Development Division, on (03) 9637 3640 or email at
school.compliance.checklist at edumail.vic.gov.au
