The simple answer is that all structures on departmental land are disclosed=
 on the department's balance sheet and if it were also to be disclosed on th=
e school's balance sheet there would be a double counting of the asset.

 

Obviously there are more issues than that in terms of funding and the accoun=
ting for property, but that is the basic reason.

I have had a query from our School Council Treasurer as to why out new baske=
tball stadium (paid for by school) does not appear on the balance sheet.   M=
y understanding was that the Department is not interested in school building=
s as such.
