Hi

Our school has a policy where anyone helping in any capacity including
canteen helpers have a police check and the volunteer pays the $5.00.
It has now become an accepted part of school, so when they arrive as new
prep parents they seem fine with the arrangement.

Subject: [Busmanagers] Re Police checks

Here is the information from the HRMS website:

Other than home-stay providers, it is currently optional for school
councils to require volunteers who work with children in schools to
undertake a Criminal Records Check (CRC). School councils should develop
policies with regard to criminal record screening for volunteers. In
developing those policies particular note should be taken of the degree
to which a volunteer would have direct supervision of children. Advice
on the development of policies for CRC for volunteers can be obtained
from the Conduct and Ethics Branch.

School Councils have the discretion to determine the policy and practice
regarding whether volunteers other than home-stay providers at the
school are required to undergo criminal records checks.

It is recommended that volunteers undergo a criminal records check if
they are going on school camps or are regularly assisting at the school.
