S151-2006 School Start Bonus for Parents

Key Messages

*          The Government has announced the introduction of the School
Start Bonus for parents in the 2006/07 State Budget.

*          A total of $182 million is being allocated over five years
for the provision of the School Start Bonus.

*          The program involves payments direct to parents of Prep and
Year 7 children to assist in meeting the cost of start-up items such as
uniforms, school bags and equipment.

*          Payments are based on $300 per annum for each eligible child.
For 2006, the bonus will be $150.

*          The first $150 payment will be made by cheque directly to
eligible parents recorded in CASES21 (Schools computerised
administration system) as at 9 June 2006.

Actions Required

*          If schools consider any corrections are required to ensure
the accuracy of CASES21 parent names and postal addresses for Prep and
Year 7 students, they need to finalise all entries by 3.00 pm on Friday
9 June 2006.

Additional Information

*          A newspaper and radio information campaign will take place
from 31 May asking parents of Prep and Year 7 students to contact their
school if their name and/or address has changed since the beginning of
the year.

*          Further information about the School Start Bonus is available
at www.det.vic.gov.au <http://www.det.vic.gov.au/> .  A telephone
helpline has also been established and can be accessed by calling the
Information and Referral Service on 1800 809 834 and then pressing 6.

Good Morning

I have two queries

Does anyone know about the allowance for Preps and Y7 students announced

in the Budget.  I am getting lots of phone calls and one this morning

expressed concern because she said that the cutoff date for applying is

today.

Also I have an Integration Aide looking for a position as her position

here has finished.  Good value and also is a ASCare Co-ordinator.  She

is looking at both areas.  Anything about, please let me know.
