Thought this might be of interest to you all.

I have an outside worker coming in to work with our students and he did
not have a Police Check but had applied for a Working With Children
check and the Department of Ed & the Department Of Justice had both said
that his application would take 8 weeks to come through and that the
school should accept the copy of the application with proof that he had
paid for it and lodged it, so that he could begin his work. As we have
had no formal guidelines from D.E.&.T regarding this as yet I contacted
Conduct & Ethics and the response is below for your info. In short we
can accept volunteers etc if they have a Working with children check or
proof that they have lodged the application in lieu of a Police check.
Just saves us all chasing the same information.

Have a nice day

Regards

Dear Sharyn,

I spoke to you earlier this morning regarding the Working With Children
check for volunteers in schools. You can accept the WWC check for
volunteers in schools. At the moment we can accept either a CRC or WWC
for volunteers and as of the end of 2007 it will be a requirement for
all in schools to have a WWC check. I have been advised that a circular
is to go out to all schools very soon explaining about the new
arrangements to do with the WWC check. Also you can accept the receipt
from the post office for the WWC check, you don't have to wait for the
volunteer to have the card to begin volunteer work.

Regards
