The hours per week worked by either teachers or SSOs are irrelevant in
determining whether they are casual or part time.  The current certified
agreements (and in the case of SSOs the previous one too) both specify
that a teacher or SSO is either full time or part time and no matter
what the hours worked their entitlements are pro-rata according to their
hours worked.

 

Casual employment is only where the person works irregular hours on an
intermittent basis such as where the person is replacing someone on
short term leave.

I thought If they worked under 20 hours they should be paid the casual
rate of $19.49 per hour.

We are looking at employing a teacher aide for 10 hours per week to be
paid from local payroll.  Would the hourly rate be $14.40 (SSO1-1 48/52)
Also the additional cost 9% SGC, work cover etc.  Should have kept the
previous correspondence on this matter!
