We have extended the hours of one of our integration aides who is level
2 trained and is paid as an SSO1 range 1. During the times she isn't at
school we have a number of other staff who level 1 and2 trained to
administer first aid as required. We ensure the first aid certificates
remain current with yearly first aid courses for both level 1 and 2 as
needed.

We have a Level 2 First Aid Officer that is paid as an SSO1 Range 1 for
the most of the day and then other trained teaching and nonteaching
staff for the rest. I question whether we need (trained nurses) in the
sick bay and be careful, because unless you are paying very high salary
rates you will find that most used to be nurses and for various reasons
have not re registered which ultimately means they are no longer nurses
are only legally allowed to practice First Aid and that is as long as
they have a current First Aid Certificate, the majority of injuries only
require minor First Aid treatment and even if it is major the person
would still only be administering First Aid and then calling an
ambulance etc. I also think that once we use the word 'NURSE' parents
tend to use the school more as a doctors surgery than a school,
expecting that we will look after sick and injured students, rather than
get professional help. I would suggest that you have a fully qualified
First Aid Officer which is what is legally required and just pay them at
the SSO1.

Good Afternoon everyone,

Currently we employ a Nurse from Rally health to man our very busy first
aid room, we are forward thinking for next year and looking too
advertise the position as an SSO, do any other schools employ a Nurse
under the SSO Agreement and what classification do you have them
employed at.

Regards
