I don't know what the fee will be or who will have to pay it. Any
decision on such a matter would be taken at the highest levels of DE&T
and I'm sure that your staff member won't be the only one in the
situation you describe.

Hi Chris

Thanks for the correct info. Within DE&T, can there be any thought to
low income staff who would struggle to find this $amount. I have one
staff member who genuinly couldn't afford this, whatever the amount -
single parent SSO1 with four kids.

Thanks,

Sue

What you are referring to is the Working With Children Card which is
being introduced as a result of new working with children legislation.
There was lots of discussion and debate about this legislation in I
think it was 2004 when it was being drafted and going before parliament.
The check/card will be required by anyone with unsupervised (eg: by a
teacher) access to children and won t just apply to schools, for example
sport coaches might need one. There will be exceptions such as where a
parent is supervising an activity where one of their children is a
participant. The requirement for existing employees is to be phased in
over the next 18 months but I believe new SSOs will require it from 1
July 2006.

The Conduct & Ethics Branch of DE&T are preparing information for
schools on the impact, procedures etc. The WWC check and card includes
a criminal records check (not quite the same as DE&Ts CRC) and like the
existing CRC there is a charge for this. The WWC is not through the
VIT, it is being run from the Department of Justice.

Hi everyone,

We have just heard a rumour about a 'working with children' card to be

mandated for all adults working in schools (eg Aides, Office Staff,

Technicians, PARENTS!!!)

at a cost of $70 per annum, similar to teacher VIT Registration and

operated through VIT. Has anyone else heard about this or is this just
a

load of rubbish?
