Thanks Chris and Brigid for your replies.
 
As it happens, the call centre rang me about a different call that was
logged, so I checked with them.
 
Their advice was to do end of period first.  However, if it was going to
take a while to complete, I should hand write the cheques and then
process the payroll later and print the cheques onto blank paper.

Hi Raelene

 

You can do payroll anytime. You do not need to do future batches in
payroll. Payroll can be done before end of period.
