[Busmanagers] Workstation access from home

I had my computer set up to work from home a couple of years ago when my
husband was seriously ill and I needed to be at home for him. Our tech
got permission from DE&T and had to get written permission from my Prin
for this to happen. It took a bit of mucking around to get both talking
to each other but my tech was very patient with my computer and me.

Found some things were slow - was advised not to do budget preparation
from home as things can go wrong. Was able to keep Accounts Payable up
to date but some other things in CASES I wasn't prepared to play with.
You need to leave your computer on at school to access it. As the home
telephone line is tied up while you are working I copied information
from the work computer (not CASES, CASES21, HRMS or PRMS) to home
computer, shut down the connection, worked on whatever, opened up and
copied it back to the school computer.

Make sure you really have to have this facility as the temptation could
be there to start working at home at night, weekends, etc. and that is
the time you should be relaxing.

Not wishing to be a wet blanket here because I can see why there are
times it would be handy to access your workstation from home, but is
this OK with DE&T and your individual schools? I'm just wondering about
security issues or internal control issues arising from having access to
lots of confidential information at home. I realise it's password
protected, but we are all aware of how often there can be lack of
security in that area. Would it not be wise to have some sort of
documentation in place at your school indicating you have authority to
do this. Just a thought. :-)

Chris I would like the instructions as well. I tried this about 4 years
ago but HRMS was far too slow. I'm eager to give it another go though.

Thanks
