Different to the response I got from DE&T when I enquired last year (we were
in round 1). I was told we had no choice.

Subject: [Busmanagers] Optus ... the ruling

To set the facts straight re this saga about Optus v Telstra, hereunder is
the reply from Jennifer Nayar from the TPAMs team at DE&T to my query as to
whether it is mandatory to change over to Optus.

It is not mandatory - the government has negotiated these low rates with
Optus so that schools could take up the offer and make a saving on their
telephone bills. On reviewing your invoices if your analysis shows that you
are better off with your current provider, then by all means it is your
call.

Regards
