We also stopped advertising a quite a while ago - it seemed the
newsletter was full of leaflets and flyers and the school news got lost.

We have an A3 newsletter folded in half.  The pre-printed paper is
supplied by Australian Newsletter Services (1800 245 077) for free and
the back page is full of business card sized ads.  The company chases up
the advertising with local businesses and that covers the cost of the
paper.  We get a year's supply at a time.  We put our newsletter out
fortnightly.

When people ring asking to advertise, we tell them that we no longer
accept outside advertising, the newsletter is restricted to school news
only.  We have a parent noticeboard in the foyer and we have a section
in the newsletter entitled "What's new on the Noticeboard" where we
mention the items that have come in and we don't charge for that.  All
advertisements are vetted by the principal before they go up.

We have stopped advertising as we were getting bombarded with local
businesses wanting to advertise at a very cheap rate compared to
newspapers.  We only advertise community activities and anything that is
aimed at children only.  Our prices were $7.70, $11.00 and $22.00 as
well.
