I draw your attention to an advertisement in Saturday's Age for an
AgHort teacher at Avila College, a Catholic school for girls, in Mt
Waverley, Melbourne. I note the ad says 'an ability to teach RE is
an advantage'. This is not mandatory and I have not taught RE in the
23 years I have been at Avila.

Avila is a great school. Happy students. Happy staff. Student
population about 1100.

The school has RTO registration for Horticulture Certificate II and
because of this has a specialist building.

Currently I teach 2 year 9, term - length, units called 'Growing
Things', VCE Units 1 and 2 to Year 10 students and VCE Units 3 & 4 to
Year 11 students.

The other science units I teach are Year 9 - 'Earth & Beyond' and
'Robotics'. I am 0.7, but I note the advertised position is for a
full time teacher.

This year there were no Horticulture Certificate II students, but I
understand some have applied to study this next year. Whether it
runs depends on numbers.

A small, very bright group of Year 10 students have applied to study
VCE Units 3 & 4 next year.

I will upload some photos spread over 4 files to introduce you to the
school. File 1 - exterior of Aghort Centre, File 2 - AgHort
facilities, File 3 - Some shots of the school environment, File 4 -
AgHort Centre - interior. All facilities - polyhouses and
glasshouse, paving, display beds, vegetable gardens, chook house etc
have been built by students.

The school gardens have been developed by the student population over
many years and have formed an excellent workplace environment for
Certificate II Horticulture.

If you are interested, I strongly encourage you to apply. If you
could inform other AgHort teachers of this opportunity, I would
appreciate it. Applications close August 19th.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me by email, or
'phone at home 9830 1538 or at work 9807 6677.

My apologies for this rather large file.

Regards,

Delwynne Peterson
