<p class="MsoNormal">Whenever I had to use software to design networks (usually at parties), I resorted to dumb but effective tools like
<i>Inspiration</i> (the mind-mapping tool) and <i>Powerpoint</i>. Both allowed easy linking of objects. I didn't find the need for anything more sophisticated.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">I remember <i><a href="http://dia-installer.de/" target="_blank">Dia</a></i> was free, good, and easy. Still probably is.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">But if you were a <i>fussy fancy-pants</i>, I guess you'd use
