For what it is worth, the guys here are now masters at this heavy integration and it is humming along very nicely now we know what works, what does not and what is the best way forward. I think that Dan is helping out with the VITTA conference on the Monday so you can touch base with him. I could organise a workshop to explain our new setup. It is worth thinking correctly through, even if you only have a couple of OSX computers to network or if your OSX network only has a few Windows computers.

Mel Wilson, formerly from Latrobe Uni was our technical contact. I am happy to pass on his details to anybody itnerested or for any of you to meet up with my team.

Regards Roland

An interesting thought Kevork. As for the OS systems..Win7 and Server2008r2 is an interesting one..wonder how many techies have taken the leap from XP to W7 , Mac environments and how seamless(or otherwise) the upgrade and/or migration has been.

eg..we here now have a combo of those mentioned above in a Xirrus environment and although its suppose to be compatible..there are still issues that slow the system or users who cant access their devices or drivers on occasion.

Lets just say 'lumps and bumps' in the transition period.

As for IPv6. We are running Server2008r2 64bit at the server end although not sure we are yet ready for IPv6 ...just yet. Have personally looked at this new protocol for my own interest and understanding..its a biggy! (at least we will have plenty of address
space!!!

Hi Folks,

Sorry for cross posts.

We all know that without our great technicians we would not be able to deliver our curriculum.

But , do we also give our technicians the same PD opportunities that we ask for ourselves ? Do we formally build into the budget both funding and time opportunities to help our technicians cross fertilize and learn about new opportunities,
solutions and ideas ?

To that end, VITTA are running a technician’s conference day on Monday 29th November at Caulfield Racecourse.

Monday November 29, 8:00am to 4:30pm Monash University, Caulfield Campus and Melbourne Racing Club, Caulfield Racecourse.

The program is a rich collection of sessions with cutting edge providers and vendors showcasing the latest and greatest in technical developments. These include Cisco, XIrrus, Microsoft and more .

The program is available at
http://www.vitta.org.au/documents/item/411 and it looks so exciting I might cancel some of my sessions and go to these . I am thinking of lessons on deployment of 802.11n wireless standards, 1:1 learning programs, fundamentals of wireless deployment ,
Windows 7 solutions, Emerging technologies, IPv6 are we there yet ( check out the Green guide Bleeding Edge last week- we will exhaust all IPv4 addresses by June next year ), Interoperability of different systems by Daniel Ingvarson, and Virtualization for
schools. It is really awesome.

In addition , there is a nomination for technician of the year so you can consider if your technician deserves the award and if so nominate.

So , please come along to make these days worthwhile and sustainable for future conferences.
