<p class=MsoPlainText>The humour, sheer craziness and immediacy of the manga
drawings...also students’ exposure to this genre of animation through
popular media, make these an appealing starting point for developing their own
works.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>The Art Start films in themselves could provide an
interesting project for students to develop their own video introduction to
aspects of the gallery or its collection for a young audience. This would
involve writing content, scripting, preparing video assets and more.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>A fantastic interactive multimedia resource, which can
serve as a stepping stone for students developing their own work is: <i>Stories
>From Old Japan.</i> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><a
href="http://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/ngvschools/FloatingWorld/stories/">http://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/ngvschools/FloatingWorld/stories/</a><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>This award winning education resource accompanied the
exhibition <i>Pictures of the Floating World (2005)</i> which presented more
than 100 Japanese woodblock prints from the NGV’s collection. This
resource features an interactive animation that allows students to create their
own stories using the characters and backgrounds of the Pictures of the
Floating World. It also provides background information on the Ukiyo-e
(Japanese woodblock print) art form and the heroic and supernatural characters
it depicted.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Stories From Old Japan is a simple animation system that
allows students to create stories using the characters and backgrounds of the
Pictures of the Floating World. It works particularly well as a small group
exercise on an electronic whiteboard.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Gallery audio guides can be found on iTunesU. These can be
used as examples for students to script their own audio guides, curating their
own tour of works in the collection based on a particular theme or interest,
for a defined audience...collecting content for broadcast or publication and
preparing audio assets.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Coming soon on our ngv website in the Learn section is
Views and Voices, where students will be able to submit their responses to the
gallery collection.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>WE really want teachers and students to use the
collection in new and exciting ways, so please talk to us about your ideas and
the possibilities! <o:p></o:p></p>
