Dear Edulist subscriber (and apologies for the cross posts),

VITTA has an exciting new offering!

CERTIFICATE IN EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES

What is Web 2.0 and why does it matter for education? Major new research into the use of Web 2.0 technologies, such as wikis, blogs and social networking, shows that young learners are prolific users of these technologies in their leisure time, but the use of Web 2.0 in the classroom is still limited . The research also found that over half of teachers surveyed believe that Web 2.0 resources should be used more often in the classroom. However, the majority of teachers questioned had never used Web 2.0 applications in lessons , despite being frequent users of technology in their personal and professional lives.

In this session you will explore blogs and wikis as an example of Web 2.0 and begin to create a Professional Learning Network through blogging. The session will include a discussion of important questions that are raised by the readings on why students should blog and the use of blogs in education, as well as hands-on exploration of some of the tools introduced by the discussion. This VITTA created module is part of the Certificate in Emerging Technologies or can be taken as an individual stand-alone unit.
