<p class="MsoNormal">Hi Litsa, Kevork and others,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We have dwindling numbers here too. 2022 will be the first time in as long as I’ve been teaching that we will have single digit enrolments in year 12 SD and with only 13 in year 11, the prospects aren’t great for 2023 either. If it keeps
going this way, I doubt we’ll offer Computing for very long. I was once told that if a subject drops below 10 here, it doesn’t get offered again.
<span style="font-family:"Segoe UI Emoji",sans-serif">☹</span> Crossing my fingers I can keep all of the year 11’s!!
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Psych and now to a slightly lesser extent BM are the courses most of our kids that aren’t doing the chem/physics/maths groupings seem to be migrating to. I don’t know if that’s due to a seemingly lower workload, better scaling, future job
prospects or what? General chats with kids in the yard seem to point to scaling and job prospects as the big boom for psych, IT just doesn’t have that future job that isn’t coding desirability.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We offered a coding class for year 10 for the first time this year, not sure if it has helped or hindered our numbers, I fear it’s the latter, we were hoping it would be more popular and make VCE IT seem less daunting and more achievable.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I’d love to hear of anyone that may have found a way to reverse the trend!

<p class="MsoNormal">We stopped running Data Analytics in 2017 due to a lack of student interest. Now our Software Dev classes are dwindling - kept afloat only by allowing top Year 11s access to the 3/4 subject. A lot of negative feedback from Software Development students
identifies the limited amount of actual coding in relation to the amount of project management required. The addition of the Development Model has teachers and students scratching their heads given the limited time frame we have for the SAT. I'm hoping to
get the HESS subject up and running in 2023. We have found surveying our best coding students, that Algorithmics is the kind of subject they want to do. Despite trying to 'sex-up' Data Analytics with an eCommerce context (eCommerce has become a very popular
Year 10 subject) most are not interested in doing Data Analytics in 3/4 and we can not fill a class.<o:p></o:p></p>

Final enrolment numbers in AC, DA or SD can vary widely from school to school across different years. It’s complex for a range of reasons. Many years ago I discovered that it mattered how computing was promoted in our school (7-10), how it was perceived by
parents even in the junior year levels (events like Grok challenges or computing clubs) and even, what it was blocked against in the VCE timetable.
