I suspect many do.<div>e.g. </div><div><ul><li>An aspiring actor chooses VCE Drama. </li><li>A budding programmer chooses VCE Software Development. </li><li>A conceited, power-hungry moron chooses VCE Politics.</li></ul></div><div>Who would choose <i>Informatics</i> as a career path? <br></div><div>Where would an 'A+' in Informatics get you in a job interview?</div><div>What tertiary courses are calling for VCE Informatics high-fliers?</div><div><br></div><div>Maybe Informatics/Data Analytics and their later generations need to pick a career path and concentrate on delivering skills for that path.</div><div>e.g. </div><div><ul><li>IT systems management (to train the small-medium business company IT guy who does all things IT)</li><li>IT security (a huge field in itself, and growing more important every day)</li><li>Hardware design and theory (is there a VCE course for that? There should be!)</li><li>System Analysis - all systems need their analysts.</li><li>Network engineering, architecture and administration</li><li>Database Engineering. Purely for masochists with a career path.</li><li>User interface design</li><li>Web development - toss the other incidental stuff and just focus on <i>the one topic</i> in depth for a year. CSS, Ajax, HTML, PERL, Javascript, Apache etc</li></ul><div>I think once the subject has a raison d´être, and it focuses on it like SD does, it will earn a following.</div></div><div><br></div><div>As it is, Informatics tries to be everything for everyone and doesn't satisfy anyone's needs.</div><div>It needs to choose a path (like SD does) and proudly <b>stick with it</b>.</div><div><br></div><div>Another 2.2 cents.
