Last year I switched from VB to Python for SD, and used code academy and NCSS for Unit 2 programming.
<div class=""><br class="">

<div class="">We installed (free) Eclipse IDE with Python 3.5. Also needed to install a specific version of Java …. can’t remember which one though - sorry!</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Since that time Eclipse has updated to a new release. I haven’t yet investigated whether I will need to update Python too.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">I just googled install instructions, which included setting up preferences for file paths etc. It was all free and easy enough for students to do at home, once I had trialled it.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Working with an IDE was a great experience for the kids, and promoted good coding style.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">

<div class="">We used tkinter library to create user interfaces.<br class="">

Hi,<br class="">
<br class="">
<br class="">
<br class="">
I want to teach programming concepts using Python programming language to my Year-10 students. I haven't taught python programming before.<br class="">
<br class="">
<br class="">
<br class="">
I noticed that the desktop computers in our school have Edustar image with Python 2.5 version. On their website however, they have two versions - 2.7.10 or 3.4.3. Now I am confused which one to use.<br class="">
<br class="">
<br class="">
<br class="">
If someone is using python, could you tell me which version would be recommended. What are limitations with Python 2.5?<br class="">

I use Python 2.7.x in my classes, mainly because that's the version I'm most<br class="">
comfortable with. Python 3.x is different to Python 2.x and not necessarily<br class="">
backwards compatible.<br class="">
<br class="">
<br class="">
<br class="">
If you haven't done much with Python before, it doesn't matter which one you<br class="">
choose - I'd be inclined to go with the 2.5 version as it's already on your<br class="">
systems. There are lots of materials online for both versions, though, so in<br class="">
the end it's just personal preference.<br class="">
<br class="">
<br class="">
