I'm at Gippsland Grammar in Sale and here's my answers to your questions:

What is the refresh rate of your devices (eg 3 years)?

Every three years. During this batch of upgrades (this year) most teachers were given one choice out of three options:

1. a 10" Acer netbook with an iPad (iPads had to be approved through a process of application)
2. a 10" Acer netbook without an iPad
3. a 10" Toshiba touch screen computer

(not much of a choice really! What about us Art/IT teachers that need a bigger screen???)

Are you a 1:1 school?
Years 7 & 8 use Netbook trolleys. At year 9, all students are given a 10" Acer eeePc netbook.
This will be the first year that all students (year 9-12) have a netbook, so they are 1:1.

What type of computer do you currently use?

For school, Acer Travelmate from two years ago (I get a new upgrade at the end of next year).

Hint: Don't go near Acer - they are cheap and nasty. The eeeEPCs fall apart within 6 months and students are quite displeased with their performance - they don't run the programs required to use at school (i.e Adobe). The
batteries die really quickly. My school also banned students from bringing in their cords/chargers for their netbooks - an OH&S hazard having all of the cords laying around the classrooms. So they purchased Energizer battery chargers instead - batteries the
same size and shape as the netbooks themselves.

Our school had to hire a part-time Acer technician to fix all of the problems with the netbooks - hard drives dying, USB ports bending, keyboards warping, keys
always falling off, monitors cracking... They are not hard wearing at all.

Acer's are too expensive to maintain - I guess it's a case of "you get what you pay for" with Acer.

Hope this helps.
