<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>hi Kevork and all<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Mobile OS ? Because I am in an iPad community I am
in favour of iOS --> Last year at Swinburne I did an android OS half day and
it was good (scratch like interface)<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>If you make separate ones then I will go with both<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Today at ICTEV conf the "killer Phrase" for me
was 1:1 Self directed learning both at school and out of school<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>effectively it is all about students learning and
teachers learning - not teachers being oracles. There was a lot today
about peer tutoring (teachers<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>->teachers, students - > students and
students to teachers)<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Who controls what we learn, what students learn -->
the learners. we can try to control what we tell them but with 1:1 they
can control what they learn, when they learn and why they learn.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>So with iOS (& Android) we can help them to learn how
to make apps that they can use to help others learn and help others with
learning.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>With Unity they can make games etc that they can export
to iOS, Android and web base apps<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Today I saw a web base app system , online systems to
build simple apps and they are easy<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>e.g. <a href="http://ibuildapp.com">ibuildapp.com</a>,
<a href="http://www.buzztouch.com"><span style='color:windowtext;text-decoration:
none'>www.buzztouch.com</span></a> and others<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Apparently there is also red foundry .com - uses
code pieces to create apps, <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>I am also excited about xcode but.... (if you have
looked at coding in Unity it is not simple but yr 7 students apparently can use
the jigsaw<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>approach)<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>This year NONE of my VCE students have printed in the
classroom. They have iPads, can pdf stuff, upload to dropbox, share it with me,
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>the old fashioned ones even email me sometimes.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>They have insisted on a facebook page (because they are
used to it --> I Use email to keep up with the facebook)<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>People want to learn --> let's help them to do it and
help them to extend them selves and hopefully they will carry us along with
them.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> I think all our efforts to bring xcode
to students will be worthwhile.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>I don't mean to favour one platform over another but to
relay some experiences. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>I am about to get a separate IOS on line community (
mailing list ) set up to start building our obviously huge interest and passion
for mobile technologies. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>I had a colleague ask me 3 years ago what I thought
elearning would look like in the near future and my response was "
interactive digital mobile learning". <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>This will be true of all learning inevitably. To be
clear, we are looking at the use of these technologies, but
influencing/creating the content that is built on/in/with them.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>My students in Yr 12 don't really understand what paper
is anymore. Only under extreme duress do they draw a UCD or DFD on paper and
then capture an image to put into their documents.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Most want to simply use gliffy or other software package
and feel it is a natural part of the learning to master this tool to then
answer questions about an SRS or sample SAC or learning activity.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>I am about to get a separate IOS on line community (

<p class=MsoPlainText>At this stage which communities ( forums, mailing lists )
do people think we need ?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>1. iphone, ipad or just IOS ?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>2. Android ?<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Hi Adrian,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> This is all very useful to all of our colleagues.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>I recently completed an Android app writing PD at
Swinburne Uni Hawthorn using appinventor ( see <a href="http://appinventor.org">appinventor.org</a>
) and found it very powerful and effortless in transferring to a phone or
sharing with other phones. For those who don't have a phone an emulator will
still allow testing of the app on Mac or PC. The resources (software,
textbooks, completed apps ) are free online. The programming environment is a
"scratch" type with no actual coding but a GUI to connect objects,
add methods, change properties and parameters. This would translate to a Yr 8
to 10 course so much more easily than say writing code in XNA or in Objective C
I feel.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>There are sections on using multi dimensional arrays,
saving to a database and much more. Is it starting to look like it could slot
into Software Development as a language ? Of course the coding would have to be
done in Java for it to be acceptable. There are efforts to provide a java view
of the Appinventor GUI see <a href="http://www.appinventor.org/roadmap"><span
style='color:windowtext;text-decoration:none'>http://www.appinventor.org/roadmap</span></a><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>but that would need to be clarified for Units 3 and 4
Software Development purposes.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> An equally useful discussion would be to
compare the competing app writing and programming options. eg. Cost of
registering as a devloper ?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>How much will students understand when writing code in a
language like Objective C or C# for that matter ?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> One of the most useful apps in this series I
worked on was "Find my car"<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>which allows recording of the current location using the
GPS feature in the phone and then after moving to another location requesting a
map showing how to find the car again. This interfaced with a voice feature
where instructions are announced on how to find your way back to the car or if
they are in the same spot, the family members you may have lost ......<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> All very exciting ...<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Keep well<o:p></o:p></p>
